Specialty Doctor – Heart of Kent Hospice

Salary: £44,487.00 plus on call

Hours: Full-time 40 core hours per week plus 1st on-call commitment
(Part time or job share would be considered)

An exciting opportunity to join the clinical team at Heart of Kent Hospice. We are an independent charity providing specialist end of life care for people facing the challenge of a life-limiting illness, and support for their families. Our catchment area includes Maidstone, Aylesford, Tonbridge and Malling and the surrounding villages.

We care for nearly 1,000 patients and their families each year in their own homes, in the community or in the Hospice, improving their quality of life and helping to make every day precious.

The specialty doctors play an important part in the multidisciplinary team’s provision of excellent holistic palliative care to hospice patients, their families and carers. Medical assessment and diagnosis, management of symptoms and liaison with other medical providers are key roles.
There will be the opportunity to experience palliative care provision in all settings – inpatient, community and hospital – as well as involvement in quality improvement projects, teaching and research. This position would therefore suit applicants who are seeking a position that provides varied and rewarding work as well as the opportunity to be part of a dedicated and experienced multi-disciplinary team.

Applicants must be suitably qualified and experienced, and have access to independent travel as some home visits or clinical input in other local settings may be required.  Enhanced DBS Check will also be required.

BPOS Executive Committee nominations

The BPOS are seeking nominations for 2 positions on the BPOS executive committee to start July 2017.  The posts are as follows:

Posts are usually held for 3 years and this a great opportunity to join a passionate multidisciplinary committee and contribute to helping BPOS advance education, research, and practice-based care in psychosocial oncology.

Member of the Palliative Medicine Specialty Certificate Examining Board

The Association of Palliative Medicine and the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK are seeking to appoint one member to the Palliative Medicine SCE Board. The successful applicant will assist the Chair and Medical Secretary in the running of the SCE to ensure that all academic objectives and standards set by the General Medical Council are met; attend annual meetings of the Board, convened to set examination papers; review candidate performance in the most recent diet; assist with the development of the SCE; act on the advice of the MRCP(UK) Management Board and Examining Boards on policy and academic matters relating to the Examinations; and support MRCP(UK) Central Office on the delivery of the Examinations.
