Title: Pain and Breathlessness
Session Outline: This session is aimed at pre-specialty doctors and medical students. This will be case-based teaching to highlight different approaches to the management of pain and breathlessness, led by Dr Jess Walding, Specialty Doctor in Palliative Medicine. We will then hear from an Occupational Therapy perspective about the practical management and interventions for breathlessness by Senior Occupational Therapist Emma Green. Following this there will be a live Q&A.
Speakers: Dr Jess Walding and Emma Green
Dr Jess Walding is a Specialty Doctor in Palliative Medicine in Hampshire and has been working in the specialty since 2017. Prior to this, she trained in anaesthetics, which shaped her approach to pain and symptom management in palliative care, including interests in interventional pain management and medical acupuncture. She has worked across hospices in England and Wales. She has a strong interest in medical education, professional development, and staff well being, and is passionate about supporting specialty doctors in the workforce.
Emma Green is a Specialist Occupational Therapist in Palliative Medicine in Hampshire, with experience in this field since 2013. She has a particular interest in Motor Neurone Disease and is passionate about championing the value of therapy in palliative care. Emma cares deeply about supporting patients and their families through some of the most difficult times in their lives, and is dedicated to providing compassionate, person-centred care that focuses on comfort, independence, dignity, and quality of life.
