I’d like to introduce you to AfterLoss, a service designed to support UK families both in planning ahead for end of life and in managing the practical responsibilities that follow a bereavement. I created it after my father passed away last year, when I found myself coordinating legal, financial, and administrative matters with siblings living in different countries. The experience showed me how overwhelming the practical side of bereavement can be, at exactly the moment when people have the least capacity to cope.
AfterLoss guides users through the 50 to 70 tasks that typically arise, from registering the death to probate and closing accounts with clear step-by-step guidance in plain English, personalised to their situation and UK jurisdiction. Families can collaborate, track progress together, and use tailor-made phone scripts and email templates for each task. The service was recently featured in the Edinburgh Evening News, and families across the UK are already using it.
