Ardgowan Hospice is a well-established hospice off ering specialist palliative and end of life care to the people of Inverclyde. We are committed to delivering high-quality care which is sustainable in the long term while putting the patient at the centre of everything we do. We are seeking a motivated Consultant in Palliative Medicine to be part of our Specialist Palliative Care Team at Ardgowan Hospice. This is an ideal opportunity to join the multidisciplinary team providing specialist palliative care across inpatient and community settings in Inverclyde. Our service is currently undergoing an exciting period of transformation, driven by a commitment to serve the changing needs of our community. For the right candidate, this environment offers a unique platform for professional growth. We are open to new perspectives and there is significant scope to shape and refine new models of care. You will be joining an enthusiastic team that values innovation that aligns with best practices in palliative medicine. The successful applicant will join the Clyde Palliative Medicine Consultant on-call rota. The rota is currently a 1:6 non-resident plus prospective cover rota, which will be going to 1:7 on recruitment to this post. This will be remunerated as 0.5 PA/week with a 5% on-call supplement. Committee Vacancies.

If you’re interested in a position on one of the APM Committees, you can look through the vacancies below for more information.

The APM Clinical Quality Committee is looking for a new Trainee rep. The Clinical Quality Committee’ is an advisory committee to the Executive Board of the APM, on clinical quality matters. The committee aims to:
  • Encourage the use of data, such as dependency scores and outcome measures, to improve the quality of medical practice and explore their role in benchmarking the promotion of quality improvement activities including audit and service evaluation such as FAMCARE and the audit /QiP prize.
  • share intelligence relating to in Palliative Care and Medicine across the membership such as relevant national reports, NICE guidelines, Cochrane reviews etc.
  • support consultants who are young in post (first 5 years), that is, within the committee’s remit.
  • support processes and standards of medical appraisal and revalidation and will liaise with appropriate bodies including RCP, NHS England and Hospice UK.

The APM Education and Training Committee are recruiting for a new committee member to join the team. The Education and Training Committee is an advisory committee to the Council of the APM, co-ordinating the Association’s educational strategy and activities. The committee aims to ensure the educational needs of members and other professionals are met through a comprehensive education programme (face-to-face and virtual), the production of educational resources and signposting to external events.  The committee works in partnership with APM committees and other organisations to co-ordinate the quality and effectiveness of education. This is an effective and productive committee with lots of ideas for the future. We are keen to expand on our offering of high quality education to all members and harness the use of technology to assist busy clinicians in delivering education. Candidates with skills and enthusiasm in these areas would be particularly welcome.
