Sustainability

Our Approach.

The APM recognises that climate change has both an impact on health and is a contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions. The APM is working on reducing our impact as an organisation, reviewing how we run our events, reviewing our business travel policy, and incorporating consideration of environmental sustainability into all aspects of our work.

We are working in partnership with other organisations to help reduce the environmental impact of palliative care while recognising that, as a specialty, we have many skills to share in this area.

Palliative Care Sustainability Network

As part of the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare, this network is open to all working in palliative care. It aims to share, connect, develop, and inspire sustainable practice in palliative care. Hospice UK

For those working in the Hospice sector, the Environmental Sustainability for Hospices Network helps hospices connect with each other and share best practices, experiences and knowledge.

The network shares ideas and support on all aspects of hospice sustainability, whether it’s generating renewable energy on-site, transitioning to electric fleet vehicles, sourcing greener fundraising merchandise, or creating more sustainable in-patient units and charity shops.

You can find out more by visiting the Hospice UK website.

Greener NHS.

The Greener NHS programme works to share ideas on how to reduce the impact on public health and the environment, save money and reach net carbon zero.

Meanwhile, the UK Health Alliance on Climate Change works to raise awareness of the impact of climate change on health, to empower health professionals to advocate for better responses to climate change, and to encourage decision-makers to strengthen policies that protect public health from climate change.
