Essential leadership skills for specialty and associate specialist doctors working in palliative care – A two-day workshop
Specialty and associate specialist doctors need the confidence and skills to lead others. Often the only medic in the room, they need to be able to take charge but share decision-making; lead the group while accounting to others; motivate and inspire across professional boundaries and influence where there may not be formal lines of accountability.
This bespoke workshop is designed for any specialty doctor or associate specialist working in palliative medicine. Numbers are limited to 18 delegates. The course content will contribute to the leadership competencies required for CESR and includes:
- Working effectively in a constantly changing environment
- Transactional Analysis – working in ‘adult’
- Using a coaching style with junior doctors and nursing staff
- Being assertive and congruent
- Participating (as chair or participant) in productive meetings
- Finding ways to routinely initiate ideas for improvement which will ‘stick’
- Challenging colleagues when there is disagreement
- Supervising others to support maximum accountability and the development of staff
- Working across professional and hierarchical boundaries
